Malay is a language of Indonesia. Roughly 8% of the population there speak it as a first language.

Malay is spoken by roughly 30 million people in at least 13 territories. Most of the speakers are in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.

Indonesian is often considered as part of the Malay group of languages, but we consider it separately here.

Territory size shows the proportion of all people who speak Malay as a first language that live in that territory.
