Malagasy is a language of Madagascar. Roughly 98% of the population there speak it as a first language.

Malagasy is the language of Madagascar, where the vast majority of the 16 million or so speakers live. It is a member of the Austronesian language family, and not related to African languages. There are also small numbers of speakers in Comoros, the United States, and Reunion (hence France, and other French dependencies, are visible on the smaller spread map), .

Territory size shows the proportion of all people who speak Malagasy as a first language that live in that territory.
